The Buck Stopped Here
This morning I flitted around the house with too many things on my mind. My mother-in-law is visiting, I need to list a ton of items, the dining room needs a deep-cleaning...when is picture retake day at school? Did I actually schedule Alex a haircut or did I just think about it? ...and then I glanced outside as a grizzled old buck wandered out of the woods. Plumes of steam rose from his face in protest when he saw me, but he didn't run. He held his majestic head high against the backdrop of browns and grays and beiges of late fall. Sunlight fell dappled on the frosted grass and warmed his back. Everyone talks about mindfulness these days, and this is what it looks like. All the thoughts swirling just...fall away. For five lovely minutes I forgot everything and it was just me and his majesty. Now, back to all. the. things...but now my day feels a little lighter. Happy Wednesday.
